Spinning Wheel

Karen Hunter and Leraine Horstmanshoff performed as a duo under the name 'Spinning Wheel' from 1992 until 1995.They performed all over NZ and also toured to the USA to play the Michagen Wimmins Festival and stopovers in Hawaii, San Fransisco and Utah.

They were a wild pair and here are some tunes to prove it....... enjoy!

Living & Breathing Leraine Horstmanshoff is a multi instrumentalist from the USA. Her ethnicity is 'Dutch Indonesian American'. One of the instruments she was renown for was the Indonesian 'Bamboo Saxophone'. This first track shows off her bamboo chops.

Melt - A sordid tale of lust and love
Both women played percussion, usually a djembe. Leraine pioneered their style of djembe playing.

.

Opening up - Another, not quite so, sordid tale of lust and love.

Te Moehau - written on a songwriting workshop Káren lead in the top of the Coromandel under the mountain 'Te Moehau'. This tune has a 'pacific reggae' feel and features Leraine on flute as well as the octave pedal Karen is using here on her acoustic guitar to make it resonate as a bass instrument in the chorus.

River. A fabulous love song dedicated to whoever you're in love with today  ( but written for T.S in 1992 )
